Funner Runner Spotlight: Jeff Baggett

Jeff Baggett - Funner Runner Half Marathon TrainingNow into his 4 session of training, Jeff is off the sidelines and enjoying the camaraderie of his fellow runners.  Check out his interview below!

Why did you start running?
My wife (Cindy) is an avid runner. I always supported her, but I decided to get off the sidelines, and enjoy the fun. I tell everyone that I got tired of holding her stuff, but in reality, I was just tired of watching all the accomplishments that she, and others made while running. I got off the couch and in the game. I started just over a year ago and lost 25+ lbs and I feel great!

How many sessions have you been a Funner Runner?
This is my first session with Funner Runners- I got started going to No Boundaries, and went though 3 sessions of "NoBo" before I joined Funner Runners. Great building block!

What do you love most about being a Funner Runner?
That's an easy question to answer-- I love the people. Runners are the best people ever- It does not matter how hard, far, or fast I run..I get more encouragement and support from this group of people than imaginable--It is an awesome feeling. Either runners are great people to begin with, or running helps you become a good person, either way--Runners Rock!!

What running accomplishment are you most proud of?
I recently went to a running camp up in the mountains. I had been training with Funner Runners a few weeks, and I was feeling stronger. Well, My coach (Stevven) had a 5 mile run on my schedule for that weekend, so I ran 5 miles up a mountain....and then I ran back down!! 10 miles--4 more miles than I had ever run! I can't describe to you the energy I felt, even though my body was tired, my spirit was alive and strong.

What are your 2015-2016 goals?
My 2015 goal is to run my 5K in Myrtle beach in under 30 minutes. I recently ran my first Sub 10 minute mile, so I hope I'm on my way to that goal. My 2016 Goal is to finish a half-marathon - and yes, I'm signed up for one :)

What is the best piece of advice you'd give someone considering their first half marathon or marathon?
Get a coach, find a group, join a team--- yes, you can do it by yourself, but it's so much more fun with the support and encouragement of others.

What is your favorite place to run in High Point?
There is a trail around the Lake at Jamestown Park.. I love the serenity and scenery of running there-- I can take my time, or run hard.. just love the feeling of being outdoors
