Carly embodies what the power of running can really do for you. Check out our interview with her in this week's feature!
Why did you start running?
I wanted to become active again and get healthier.
What do you love most about being in No Boundaries?
I love what I've learned about running from form to breathing but mostly I love the people that I've met. We support each other and a support system is key!
What running accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am proud of the fact that I can run a 5K and have run 3 since I've started. I love the race scene and I never thought I would be a participant and/or an athlete as my e-mail said when I registered for my first race! Me an athlete? Who would've thought?
What are your 2015-2016 goals?
My goal is to run 2, 5K's a month from July - December which I am on track to accomplish and then in January look into what training for a half-marathon looks like. I'd like to run a half-marathon by October 2016. Furthermore, I have an overall goal to lose 100 lbs. I started my journey of losing 100 lbs in May and I am down 35 currently. I have been watching my calorie intake and running!
What is the best piece of advice you'd give someone considering their first 5K?
The best advice I would give someone is: Never say you can't because you won't; mind of matter is key to running. I have found that its 10% physical and 90% mental. Stay strong mentally and you will surprise yourself as to what you will do. It's almost magical how you will become a runner right before your own eyes!
What is your favorite place to run in Greensboro?
My favorite place to run in Greensboro is the Greenway! (All sections, we are so fortunate to have the Greenway in Greensboro!)
