The Benefits of Yoga for Runners

Whether you are starting a new season with the goal of a PR, putting an injury to rest or simply wanting to improve your flexibility, yoga can be the answer for you.  Yoga is no longer for the hippie seeking inner peace.  It is for people looking to increase stamina, improve strength and mental focus.  So why not hit the mat and find the extra edge?

Yep, you heard that right, yoga can take time off your PR.  Yoga helps you build strength and flexibility in your core, hamstrings, quads and hip flexors.  These are often areas that runners are stiff and need help with.  By adding yoga to your routine, you can develop strength and flexibility in these areas to help you run more efficiently and stay injury-free.  But don't get too ambitious too quickly.  As naturally competitive people, it's important to understand that you may not be a star pupil in your first class.  Go at your own pace and let your body slowly work into positions over time.

Yoga is offered weekly on Tuesday evenings from 7:15 - 8:15 PM at Fleet Feet Greensboro.  Sessions are offered at $50 for 8 weeks.  Drop-ins are welcome at $10 a class.  Click here to find the next session dates.
